Meet John

John was born and raised in the Brazos Valley, graduating from A&M Consolidated High School in 1991. Growing up, he frequently visited Caldwell, Snook and Somerville with his parents. John recalls spending time in Caldwell at the Kolache Festival, Snook at the Bakery and Somerville at the lake. To John, Burleson County has always been a second home.
At the age of 19 he began his career in law enforcement with the Brazos County Sheriff's Office. This is where he started working for county government. John would continue to work for Brazos County for the next 28 years. He served the Sheriff's Office as a jailer, dispatcher, patrol deputy, investigator, sergeant and lieutenant commander. During his career, John supervised the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division and SWAT as Commander. He spent extensive time around the courthouse as a public servant in criminal, civil, and juvenile courts, as well the commissioner's court learning the day-to-day operations of county government.
John retired from Brazos County in February 2020 and was appointed as the Burleson County Sheriff's Office chief deputy by, then, newly elected Sheriff Gene Hermes one week later. While working for Burleson County, John was responsible for drafting the sheriff's office budget. John spent extensive time reviewing the entire Burleson County budget and attended 95% of the commissioner's court meetings. During John's time as chief deputy, he became very familiar with the inner workings of Burleson County government and its budget.
John and his wife, Rhonda, built their home in Snook in March of 2021, calling Burleson County their final home and place to eventually retire.
On August 17, 2021, John was shot in the line of duty while serving a warrant for aggravated robbery. He returned to work 13 days later and spent the next year continuing his role as chief deputy. Facing more surgeries, John decided to retire from law enforcement, for the final time, after 30 years and 9 months of law enforcement service.
John continued his role of serving the public when he accepted an appointment to the Snook City Council as an Alderman to complete the unexpired term of an open seat. He was elected the next year and is currently in the second year of a two-year term.
In September of 2023, John began working in the private sector. He accepted a management position with Non-Ferrous Extrusions in Caldwell. John is the Facilities Manager for both the Caldwell and Houston locations. John holds a 30 hour OSHA certification and oversees the safety training for over 160 employees. He routinely works in close coordination with state and federal inspectors to ensure a safe working environment for employees and to reduce liability to the company.
John loves to volunteer and serves on the Snook EEA, and he is the president of the Snook Lions Club. In April of 2025, John was appointed to serve on the Brazos Valley Council of Governments "Homeland Security Advisory Board" by the Burleson County Commissioner's Court.
John's passion for serving, his love for Burleson County, his deep understanding of county government and the numerous Burleson County residents who have encouraged him to run have led him to the decision to seek the office of Burleson County Judge.
